A Rare and Historic Westminster Abbey Stall Plate of Lt. Col. Michael McCreagh, Companion of the Military Order of the Bath, Nominated June 4, 1815.
Visitors to the Chapel of the Order of the Bath, in Westminster Abbey, will see the stalls of the Knights Grand Cross of the Order. They will also see the stall plates which have been affixed in the Chapel as a lasting testimonial to the many recipients of this high honor. Plates can be seen to Monarchs, Admirals, Generals and Politicians. Few people, however, will realise that in 1815, when the Order was expanded into three classes, it was intended the Knight Commanders and Companions should each have their own stall plate erected in the Abbey. This rare plate is inscribed "MICHAEL McCREAGH ESQUIRE, LT.COL.IN THE ARMY AND MAJOR IN THE PORTUGUESE SERVICE, COMPANION OF THE MOST HONOURABLE MILITARY ORDER OF THE BATH, NOMINATED JUNE 4, 1815." Colonel McCreagh was born in 1786 and died August 31, 1834. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of English history. 7 1/2" x 4 1/2"
