A GOLD knobed Walking Stick owned by British Admiral Sir Henry Bryan Martin (1803-1865)


Item Description:

Inscribed "Henry Bryan Martin 1865" along with his family armorial crest and motto 'Pro Patria." 36" malacca shaft. Historical note: Admiral Martin was a senior Royal Navy officer who first went to sea in 1818. By 1840 he was a Captain in charge of HMS Caryfort. He was involved inn action during the Syrian War and took part in the capture of Acre on Nov. 3, 1840. He was then awarded the Order of the Bath. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1854 during the Crimean War with Russia in 1854-1855.
