Item Title:

A rare and unbelievably beautiful American polycrome decorated and sailor carved patriotic powder horn circa 1810-1830

Item Description:

Measuring 12 1/2" long, this rare sailor carved and decorated powder horn features an amazing spread wing eagle holding an American flag in its' beak while clutching onto a banner. Also depicted is a large three-masted ship flying the American flag. In addition, there is a three-dimensional polycromed Federal shield as well as what appears to be a depiction of the home of the sailor who carved the horn with his initials 'G R' over the door. There are also countless numbers of small blue stars engraved all over the horn. Finally, the entire lower edge of the horn is decorated with red and white banners or swag. Truly a museum quality piece.
