Title: A fine and rare pair of historically important Queen Anne period cast bronze medallions dated 1707.
Description: These wonderful 'high relief' bronze medallions are dated 1707 and commemorate the Act of Union whereby the Kingdoms of England and Scotland were united into a single sovereign state, the Kingdom of Great Britain. These medallions may represent trial castings intended as suggestions for a second great-seal and counter seal of Queen Anne. They were most likely designed and executed by John Roos, Royal Seal-Engraver to Queen Anne. These fine and beautiful examples measure 7" in diameter and are identical to examples in the collections of the British Museum.
