Title: A 'George Washington' and 'American Eagle' English Creamware Black-Transfer Printed Presentation Liverpool Pitcher circa 1797-1805
Description: Probably made by Herculaneum Pottery, this wonderful example stands 11 1/4" high. It has in script the owners' initials " J P T". Printed on one side is a portrait of Washington surrounded by 'Justice, Liberty, and Victory.' The other side has the Great Seal of the United States surrounded by the states within borders. LITERATURE: Robert H. McCauley, "Liverpool Transfer Designs on Anglo-American Pottery," numbers 57, plate XXIII; 153 and 154, plate XXVIII. Condition: no cracks or chips. Slight discoloration in one area.
