A fine 18th century Mahogany Knife or Cutlery box circa 1780

This serpentuine form box was made of beautiful flame mahogany and has herring bone pattern fruitwood stringing and interior edges. The interior lid features a compass rose. Included is a set of 18 large pistol grip ebony handled dinner knives with steel blades and 17 similar two prong forks with steel tines. Height of box: 14" CONDITION: The lid has shrunk over the years and does not quite sit flat on the lower section.
