A fine 19th century 8 draw telescope with baleen wrapped barrel circa 1840

This rare telescope was made by William Charles Cox of Devonport, England, circa 1840. The inscription reads "Optician to the Royal Western Yacht Club" which was founded in 1833. The barrel is beautifully wrapped in a piece of whale's baleen. When closed the scope measures only 6" long. When fully extended it is nearly 30" long. The optics are sharp and clear.
