Mounted with exquisitely engraved German silver mounts, this wonderful piece of carving depicts most, if not all, of the Kings and Queens of Poland from Lechus in 550 to Augustus the Strong who died in 1733. The box would appear to date from shortly after his death, sometime around 1733-1734. There are 50 individually carved portraits giving the name and date of each sovereign. The back panel also features four royal crests in each of the corners. The box appears to be made of either cedarwood or a fruitwood and is in excellent condition. The box measures 10 1/2 wide, 5 1/2" high and nearly 7" deep. A true museum quality piece!!
