A fine George I period ebonized quarter-repeating Bracket Clock circa 1715-1720 by Simon de Charmes

This magnificent English bracket clock was made circa 1715-1720 by Simon de Charmes, a French Huguenot, who was made a free brother of the Clockmakers' Company in 1691 and worked until 1730. The clock features a bell top case with brass carrying handle and four ball and spire finials. The breakarch dial has a silvered chapter ring, a calendar aperture and maker's plate engraved "S. DeCharmes, London." The double fusee movement has a verge escapement and engraved brass backplate with a pull quarter repeat on a nest of six bells. Height: 17" Width: 9" Depth: 6 1/2"
