A Fine Leather Covered Chinese Export Campforwood Trunk circa 1830-1850

This is one of the nicest and most decorative black leather covered trunks of the China Trade period that I have ever owned. The original brass straps, brass edges and 'chunky' brass carrying handles retain a beautiful mellow patina. The engraved brass lockplate is the most decorative and unusual that I have ever seen on a piece of this period being two 'love' birds entwined. There is the normal wear to the leather covering but it is complete and intact. The brass tack decoration is also original and quite elegant. Measurements: W 42" D 21" H 20".
