A fine pair of British flintlock pistols with brass over and under barrels with folding bayonets by L.Samuel of Liverpool circa 1780-1800.

Most likely used as Naval boarding pistols, these center hammer tap action pistols appear to be .44 cal. and have 3" barrels. The brass frames are marked "L.Samuel" on one side with "L Pool (Liverpool)" on the other side. Both markings are surrounded with a trophy of arms motif, clearly suggesting use by a military officer, and in my opinion, a Naval officer. The one piece grips are made of walnut. There are oval silver escutcheons, each engraved 'J D.' The right sides of the barrels and frames are numbered '5,6,7,8' which suggest that these pistols may have been part of a larger set. Included is a beautiful custom made mahogany display stand.
