A fine U.S. Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword dated 1839

This was a personal side arm issued to foot artillery regiments of the United States Army from 1832 until it was TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE IN 1872. It was used extensively in the Mexican-American war of the 1840's as well as the Civil War. It has a straight double edged 19" blade with the overall length being 25." This particular example shows virtually no wear and is in its' original untouched condition. The original brass mounted leather scabbard only shows one small scuff. The blade is stamped with an eagle over N.P. Ames, Springfield on one side with U.S. 1839/W.S. on the reverse side. The guard is stamped M S for an inspector's mark. The grip is scaled brass. The brass has achieved a mellow patina but the blade remains bright as new.
