A late 18th or early 19th century Ebony framed Mariner's Octant signed "SPENCER BROWNING & RUST, LONDON," circa 1790-1810.

Complete with a fitted period stepped carrying case with the label of "S. Emery, Salem, Mass.," a retailer of nautical instruments, and dated 1866. The octant is complete with its' original filters and lenses and is engraved on the cross bar "Spencer Browning & Rust" and further engraved in script "SBR" on the ivory scale. The index arm measures 14". A nice honest example!
