A Pennsylvania flintlock half-stock plains rifle by John Moll II of Allentown circa 1820-1850

Overall length of 48" having a 33 1/2" octagonal rifled barrel of approximately .50 cal. The barrel has a gold makers' name plate inscribed "J. Moll, Allentown" flanked by two gold barrel bands. The bird's eye maple stock is very pleasing with no visible repairs. The English trade lock is engraved with a pair of pheasants and the word 'Warranted.' The brass inlays are simply wonderful featuring a squirrel holding an acorn, an American eagle clutching a Federal shield, a beaver, an Indian arrow, a half moon and a bleeding heart. The brass tipped ramrod appears to be the original. Mechanically in good condition. The gun appears to be a reconversion from percussion. NOTE: The Molls were one of the most productive families of gunsmiths to work in Pennsylvania beginning as early as 1764 and lasting until about 1880.
