A rare 17th century cedarwood box with carved lions, possibly Italian, circa 1600-1650

In original condition with traces of the original green and red paint. Original iron hinges, internal storage compartment and lockplate. However, there is some slight damage (charing of the wood) on the right hand side of the box below and on the lid. At some point in the last 350 years someone must have left a burning candle too near the box which probably caused this damage. Width: 15".
