An important religious book in wonderful condition printed in 1661. The embossed vellum spine and boards are wonderful with a very slight warping. The pages themselves, over 2,000 of them, couldn't be in better condition. The book itself is rather large and heavy measuring 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" by 4 1/2". The first three pages are filled with hand written notes regarding the contents. The contents include Gratian's 'Decretum (circa 1140), papal decretals from Gregory IX (1234), Boniface VIII (1298), Clement V (1317) and some later decretals from the 14th century, all of which remained the law in force in the Catholic church until 1917. Quite an important volume rarely on the market.
