A RARE Pair of BRADLEY & HUBBARD Bronze Bookends Depicting "The Lion of Lucerne" circa 1922

Historical note: The actual Lion is a colossal figure in the side of a cliff in Lucerne, Switzerland. It is a tribute to 760 Swiss guards who were hired to protect King Louis XV of France during the French revolution. All of them wer slain at the tuileries in Paris in 1792, and the lion, a monument to their loyalty and bravery, was sculpted in 1820. The bookends themselves are one of the rarest forms made by B & H and are highly sought after. L 7 1/4" H 5"
