A solid brass eagle made by John Matthews of New York circa 1860 mounted on an ornate bronze base.

John Matthews of 437 & 439 First Ave., New York, came over from England in 1830. He invented and patented the Soda Fountain and died in 1870. The eagle is stamped with his name and address and was most likely used as an ornament on one of his soda fountain apparatus. Height 8"
