Of the highest quality and finely detailed, this beautiful pair of bookends says on the back of each "Born at Edinburgh in 1771 He became one of Scotland's greatest poets his most successful works being 'The Lady of the Lakeand 'The lay of the last minstrel.' His efforts as a novelist enrichedus with the famous 'Waverly Novels'. After sufferinga loss of 17,000 British pound sterling in thre financial panic of 1825 he died in 1832 at Abbotsford."
