An American 13 Star Yacht Ensign Made by Annin & Co., New York, circa 1865-1870

This early, highly decorative designed 44" x 72" yacht ensign has its canton and stripes of machine-sewn wool bunting. This type of flag was typically used as a stern flag for private yachts. HISTORICAL NOTE: Annin & Co. is the world's largest and oldest flag company, founded in 1847. They made the flag tha draped Abraham Lincoln's coffin in 1865. Commander Robert E. Perry carried an Annin made flag to the North Pole in 1909 and Neil Armstrong planted an Annin made flag on the moon's surface on July 20, 1969, where it remains today. Condition: Overall excellent. Slight water stains on the anchor in the canton and a couple of small moth holes. Colors rich and vibrant.
