As Commander-in-Chief of the Eygptian Expeditionary Force in World War I, Allenby took Beersheba and Gaza from the Turks in 1917, entered Jerusalem through the gate that today bears his name and won a sweeping victory at Megiddo in 1918 in the last great mounted cavalry campaign. Promoted to Field marshall in 1919, he was High commissioner for Eygpt from 1919-1925. Note: Inventory 107 is being sold separately.
