A very early Queen Anne period blunderbuss made by John Hall of London in 1712, who was a supplier of Ordnance to the British Navy. The 16" round cannon barrel is engraved "H M S Ramillies" after the famous battle of Ramillies in 1706. The lock plate is engraved as follows: "I. Hall 12" and has the Royal Crown of Queen Anne over her initials "A R." The lockplate is also stamped with the Royal Navy broad arrow stamp. The overall length of the blunderbuss is 32". Condition: The ramrod may be a period replacement. There is also signs of damage to the butt stock surrounding the brass butt plate. Finally, there is a 5" sliver of wood missing from the frizzen going forward towards the muzzle. Historical note: H M S Ramillies was a 82 gun naval war ship launched in 1664 as H M S Royal Katherine. She was renamed H M S Ramillies in 1706 and was rebuilt from 1733 to 1741, finally being wrecked in 1760.
