An Exceptionally fine pair of English Flintlock Duelling Pistols by William Smith of London circa 1806-1816.

This outstanding pair of pistols have the following features: Sighted octagonal browned twist barrels fitted with double recessed breeches, signed, numbered and engraved patent lock plates, pigeon-breasted cocks and swept pans, engraved and blued spurred trigger guards, single set triggers, sliding safety catches, platinum breech bands, platinum lined touch holes, silver escutcheons, silver fore-end caps, silver barrel lugs, highly figured tiger maple stocks with checkered butts and the original brass mounted maple ramrods. One steel is a working life replacement signed by the maker J W White, Barbadoes. Both guns have a common serial number of 1868 but unique patent numbers of 883 and 884. HISTORICAL NOTE: William Smith was appointed Royal Gunmaker to the Prince Regent in 1817, to King George IV in 1820 and shortly thereafter appointed Gunmaker to the Emperor of Russia. Overall this is a very stunning pair of rarely seen pistols.
