An Historically Important English Creamware Enamel Decorated and Black Transfer Printed Liverpool Pitcher circa 1803.

On one side the ship "MARY" is featured and on the other side a grouping of Masonic symbols. Below the handle is a ribbon tied square and compass enclosing the letter 'G.' Beneath the spout is the name 'Thomas O'Bryan' within a grapevine and floral wreath. Beneath that is a lady leaning on an upright anchor looking out at sea as her husband or boy friend sails away. Condition: The pitcher is in near 'mint' condition. HISTORICAL NOTE: the 'Mary' was a single deck American brig built in 1785. Her last entry in Lloyd's Register was in 1804. This very pitcher is illustrated in JACK TAR, A Sailor's Life, 1750-1910, p.271. Height: 9 5/8"
