An Important 18th century English Library Telescope by Jesse Ramsden, London, circa 1785

Jesse Ramsden (1735-1800) was a mathematical master, winner of the Copley Medal, and one of Britain's leading scientific instrument makers of the 18th century. This fine library telescope has his name proudly engraved in large script on the barrel, has all its' original lenses, and has sharp and clear optics seldom found on 18th century instruments. even the stabilizing rod has its' original ivory key for rack and pinion adjustment. Accompanying the scope is its' original figured mahogany fitted case which measures 31" x 7" x 4 1/2". Circa 1785.
