An important American Silver Stuffing Spoon by Robert Fairchild of Stratford, Connecticut made for Charity Johnson, wife of Dr. Samuel Johnson, first President of King's College (Columbia University) circa 1750.

Featured on page 81 in "Early Connecticut Silver 1700-1840" by Peter Bohan and Philip Hammerslough and published by the Wesleyan University Press in 1970, this important American silver stuffing spoon was made by Robert Fairchild in Stratford circa 1750-1760. It measures 15 1/2". The initials " C I " are those of Charity Johnson, wife of reverand Dr. Samuel Johnson (1696-1772), Yale College 1714, clergyman, philosopher and first president of King's College (now Columbia University). Formerly in the collection of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Halpin. This spoon is spectacular in every sense of the word!
