Decorated with the Crown of King George II of Great Britain, this is one of 12 trunks MADE FOR THE KING, possibly by William Pigg (Royal Trunk Maker)or a decendent. Repudedly given as a gift to the Rothschild family (financiers to the Royal family)in the early 19th century by King George III, this trunk was purchased directly from one of the decendents, Lady D'Avignor Goldsmith. The engraved lock plate and hasp appear to be late 17th century but original to this piece. Regretably, the trunk suffered some fire damage in 2001 but still is an impressive and important piece of English history. W: 46 1/2" D 23" H 28 1/2"
