Fine Antique 18th century French Carved "Voltaire" Tobacco Box Circa 1790

This beautifully carved walnut snuff or tobacco box has the bust of Francois-Marie Voltaire (1694-1788), one of France's greatest writers and satirist, on the lid and a list of all his plays carved or pressed onto the bottom. The box is lined with tortoiseshell and dates to circa 1790.
