Excellent example of the 1871 pattern helmet, this pre-1901 Horse Guards Officer's helmet is made of polished nickel with gilt fittings. The helmet plate has the Victorian crown surmounting the oval red enamel cross with the latin words "Honi Soit Qui Maly Pense" (Shame to him who finds evil here. Gilt chin chain and large rose pattern side bosses. Original red horsehair plume.
