Height: 6 3/4" Historical background: John Harvard was a clergyman born in London in 1607 and moved to Charlestown, Mass., in 1637. He died a year later in 1638 and left half his estate and his entire library to a newly established college. The young minister's gift provided the college with some needed stability. In his honor, it was called Harvard College. The statue of John Harvard was done in 1900 and these bookends were made shortly thereafter.
