Although unmarked, this rare coin silver communion cup is most likely from the mid 18th century. It is pear shaped with double scroll handle with leaf grip on a splayed foot. Overall condition is wonderful. The cup stands about 5 1/4" high and weighs 13 troy ounces. NOTE: Moses Brown (1742-1827)was a prominent philanthropist and merchant from Newburyport, Massachusetts. He served as the first selectman of Newburyport. He also spent significant funds in outfitting several of the largest privateers during the Revolutionary War. In 1805 he bought land in Maine which was later incoporated as Brownville. A more complete family history accompanies this piece.
