A Fine 19th century Sailor-Made Ivory Mounted Folding Games Box With Whalebone Inscription

The mahogany top is adorned with two thick carved sections of ivory foliate flanking a central whalebone placque in the form of a humpback whale inscribed "Capt. Bowe, Whaler Skua, 1855." The fold out interior with a complete set of original ivory chess pieces. W 8", D 4", H 2 1/2" NOTE: Skua is a large predatory seabird found off the coast of South America.
