A Rare and Historic silver mounted Holy Bible and Book of Common Prayer owned by Charlestown, Mass., resident Mary Henley (White) and dated 1713.

This historic Holy Bible and Book of Common Prayer were printed separately in 1706 by Charles Bill in London and in 1711 by Thomas Newcomb and Henry Hills, Royal printers to Queen Anne. They were bound together shortly thereafter. The silver clasps have the initials "M H" for Mary Henley and the date 1713. Mary Henley married John White and both were descendants of the earliest settlers to Charlestown, Mass., who arrived in the late 1620'sand early 1630's. Her signature and date of 1706 are on the page facing the frontispiece. HISTORICAL NOTE: Most Bibles with early American provenance are owned by historical societies and museums. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history. CONDITION: In addition to the normal wear to the full leather covers, the pages have wear to the edges with minor losses. The spine is partially cracked and the front cover is cracked where it meets the spine. Considering the age and usuage of this family heirloom, the condition is better than normal.
