An English Victorian brass mounted burled walnut double book box circa 1873

This beautiful box is brass mounted with a large clasp having the raised initials of 'JS' in script for Joseph Shuttleworth. Shuttleworth was the owner of 'Old Warden Park, a beautiful country house located in Bedfordshire. A photo of the house is included. With in the box are stored two books, one a personal ledger, the other a cash dispursement book, each in Shuttleworth's handwriting. The clasp releases by turning a key. The date of the box is circa 1873, the date he acquired the estate. Width: 8 1/2", Depth; 3 1/2" Height: 6".
