Magnificent Nantucket 'Friendship' Basket made by Jose Formosa Reyes Circa 1950

This fine and rare 'free form' Nantucket 'Friendship' basket, made by the celebrated Nantucket basket maker Jose Reyes, has its' lid adorned with whale ivory depicting a carved ivory whale, boat, Nantucket Island, Muskeget and Tuckernuck Islands carved by the famous Nantucket scrimshander Aletha Macy. The clasp, peg and knobs are also made of whale ivory. The color and patina of this basket is absolutely beautiful!
