Having silver hinges, lockplate, key hole escutcheon and name plate, this good example is also stamped by the maker, "Thomas Lund, 56 & 57 Cornhill, London." Lund was in business from 1819-1839 and this example dates to circa 1820. It sits on four ivory bun feet and the interior is also trimmed with ivory. The inside of the lid retains its' original blue velvet lining. The tortoiseshell does, however, have some age cracks both to the front as well as the back and this is reflected in the price. If perfect, this box would retail for over $5,000. Nevertheless, signed tortoiseshell tea caddy boxes are quite rare and this box, in my opinion, is an oustanding buying opportunity!
