An exceptionally fine early 19th century English wheel barometer made by Joseph Somalvico circa 1835

SOLD

The photos do not do justice to this magnificent barometer !! The barometer features a beautiful flame mahogany case which measures 41" long by 13" wide. The bezel is made of fine 'bell metal' rather than the typical brass. The silvered dial is large and measures 10" across. It also incorporates a finely engraved thermometer. The dial is signed "J. Somalvico, 44 Kirby Street, Hatton Garden, London." The back also features a trade label of Negretti & Zambra, who were opticians and instrument makers and retailers in the second half of the 19th century. It appears that this barometer was acquired and then sold by them during this time frame. This barometer shows the highest level of craftsmanship and is in perfect working order.
