An Important engraved brass Sundial by George Adams, Maker to His Royal Highness, circa 1760.

This exceptional instrument was made by one of England's greatest instrument makers of the 18th century, George Adams. This profusely engraved 12" diameter brass Sundial is inscribed "Made by George Adams in Fleet Street, Instrument Maker to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales." The Prince of Wales later became King George III in 1760 and this piece dates to circa 1760. Engraved around the gnomen is a compass rose with all the compass points from N to NNE to NNW to NW etc. It has also has the Month of the Year, the days of the month, Watch Faster, Watch Slower and around the edge the Time of the Day in Roman Numerals. This is a rare and exquisite work of art worthy of any museum in the world!!
