Historic Antique Presentation Life Saving Telescope Dated 1862

Made by the London firm of 'Troughton & Simms, this fine tapered single-draw telescope with nickel silver fittings comes complete in its' original fitted mahogany case with brass placque. It is inscribed as follows: "Presented by Her Majesty's Government to Captain John Glass, Master of the Brig 'Dante' of Greenock in acknowledgement of his humanity and kindness to the Master, Crew and Passengers of the Ship 'Levanter' of St. Johns, New Brunswick, whom he rescued from their sinking vessel on the 5th December 1862.' Being sold together with a sail cloth covered copy of 'Nories Navigation' dated 1877, signed by Captain Glass.
