Perhaps the Most Beautiful English Queen Anne Marquetry Longcase Clock circa 1710-1715 On the Market

Standing 100" tall, this magnificent clock was made by Joseph Prestwood (1670? - 1723), who apprenticed under the famous maker Henry Jones from 1693 and became a member of London's Clockmaker Company in 1703. This clock has an outstanding break-arch dial with three regulators, one for the timing, one for the month and the third for strike/silent. The marquetry case features over 12 inlaid exotic birds and butterflies. The maker even went so far as to decorate the columns flanking the dial with all-around marquetry. The sprandrels depict two angels holding a crown with 'Maltese' Cross above. The eight day movement is original and the only minor restoration is to case where the marquetry has split or popped out due to shrinkage. A true museum quality piece from the "golden" age of English clockmaking.
