A BALLARD .41 cal. Single Shot Deringer circa 1870.

Having serial number 1859, this Deringer has an NRA rating of Very Good. Made by C.H. Ballard & Co., Worcester, Mass, a few thousand were made in .41 rimfire, but only a handful were made with ivory grips. The barrel has no original finish, the iron frame (scarce) is engraved with about 95% of the nickel finish remaining. See p.34 in 'The Deringer in America' by Eberhart and Wilson, published in 1993.
