This exceptionally fine sword features the eagle cluthcing a cannon ball in its' beak and the quillons boldly molded with acanthus and acorn finials, traditional symbols of the Navy. The sword has a straight 30" blade with shallow, full length fuller and a 13 1/2" blued and gilt panel etched and engraved with florals. The other side features a trophy of arms, flags, cannons and banners with a Federal shield. The elephant ivory grips are carved with shell and fluted panels. The sword comes with its' original gilt-brass scabbard engraved with an eagle perched on a Federal shield along with foliage. CONDITION: The excellent blade retains over 90% of its' bright blued and gilt decoration. The hilt retains nearly 60% of its' gilt finish and is slightly loose. The scabbard retains nearly 35% of its' original gilt finish and has no dents. Overall, a highly sought after American Naval officers' sword in very fine condition.
