A Nice Pair of Silver-Mounted Flintlock Holster Pistols with Brass Barrels signed 'J. Henshaw, London,' one hallmarked 1749, the other 1754

Made by John Henshaw, London, one with silver hallmarks for the year 1749 and the other 1754, the engraved silver mounts include spurred pommels each with a 'trophy of arms' buttcap, trophy-of-arms side plates and escutcheons, the latter engraved "Gift of Aeneas Campbell to Mungo Grant." In addition, there are turned silver ramrod pipes and the original horn tipped ramrods, one with a worm, the other incomplete. Both guns have carved figured walnut stocks, one a working replacement (probably made in 1754). One cock shows signs of a period repair, although very minor. Overall length: 13 1/2". A very attractive pair of pistols.
