A RARE Kentucky Pistol possibly made in Lehigh County, PA, circa 1840

This beautiful and rare example has a 9 1/2" rifled octagonal barrel and an overall length of 13 1/2". The tiger maple full stock with no noticeable dings or dents. The lockplate signed "ASHMORE Warranted" was originally made for a flint cock. It is possible that an older lockplate was used when this piece was made circa 1840 or it may have been converted to percussion from flint. In either case, this is a very rare and handsome piece and further research may indicate who made it. Note: It has been stated that for every 250 Kentucky rifles made, only one Kentucky pistol was made. Ashmore was in business from 1827-1855.
