A superbly carved and silver mounted late 18th century Coconut shell gunpowder flask circa 1790

I don't think I have ever seen an object carved as well as this powder flask was done. Simply beautiful! In addition, this outstanding example has the typical lion face on the bottom, this time with two rubies as eyes. The four panels going around the shell are as follows: 1.) Silver shield escutcheon with initials "C R," surrounded by a wreath 2.) military motif focusing on a pair of cannons with powder kegs, ram rods, pikes and banners 3.) geometric panels 4.) large urn with flowers. The base also is carved. The flask appears to retain its' original silver spout and cap as well as the hanging chains. Height: 5". Provenance: Hobart House antiques.
