An historic English brass barreled Blunderbuss circa 1770 by William Jover of London inscribed "The George Inn, Southwark"

William Jover worked in London from 1750 to 1786 and this very clean and historic blunderbuss dates to circa 1770. The gun is in original condition with no replaced parts and is in good working order. It measures 32" long and has a brass two-stage barrel going from octagonal to round. The flared muzzle measures 1 1/2" in diameter. The barrel is marked JOVER-LONGACRE-LONDON. The only condition issue is that the ramrod, which looks to be original, has been broken at some time in the past and is missing several inches at the back end. HISTORICAL NOTE: The George Inn in Southwark dates back to medieval times and is now owned by the National Trust for Historic Properties. After a major fire the property was rebuilt in 1676. Charles Dickens was a frequent visitor. This gun was most likely used to provide protection for coach travelers as well as guests of the Inn.
