A fine late 17th century English oak coffer with tulip decoration and the initials I F and dated 1697

SOLD

Although there are perhaps thousands of 17th oak coffers, this one is a rare survivor in original untouched condition having its' original uncut down legs. Most antique coffers today have had their legs shortened due to rot or trying to fit the coffer into smaller rooms, but not this one. In addition, this coffer retains its' original iron hinges and lockplate. The carved tulip motif is in tribute to William and Mary, originally from the Dutch Royal family. Width: 49" Height: 31" depth: 21"
