A Magnificent Chippendale style mahogany Lowboy made by Boston cabinetmaker Olof Althin circa 1890

Reminiscent of some of the most significant American lowboys made in Boston, Newport and Philadelphia in the 18th century, this exceptional example was made by Olof Altin (1858-1920), a Swedish emigrant who came ot Boston in the 1870's. The piece features a thumb molded flame mahogany top with notched corners above one long drawer over a central shell carved (Newport style) drawer flanked by two smaller drawers. There are also fluted quarter columns and a shaped apron with C scrolls. Each of the four cabriole legs has acanthus leaf carving and terminate on ball and claw feet. The drawers are finely dovetailed which is another example of the quality of this piece. Height: 31" Width: 37" Depth: 22"
