A Beautiful 19th century Sailor Carved Powder Horn circa 1850

Measuring 9 1/2" long, this wonderful sailor carved powder horn is nearly translucent. The horn was originally heated and then pressed to partially flatten it. The carving includes a large anchor, a bird, a compass and a star. Large swags of fern leaves also adorn the horn along with the owner's initials 'W N H.' There is some old damage to the bottom edge of the horn where it meets the pinned wooden cap but this does not affect the overall beauty of the horn or its' carvings.
