A carved eagle removed from the officer's wardroom of the Civil War U S Steam Frigate KEARSARGE

The U S S Kearsarge was built at the Portsmouth Naval Yard in Kittery, Maine in 1861. In 1864 she located the C S S Alabama off the coast of France and engaged her in one of the most memorable naval battles of the Civil War. She was eventually taken out of service in 1894 and shortly thereafter is when this eagle was removed and placed in a shadow box. 21" by 12 1/2"
